When We Are Not Known Even unto Ourselves

For a time in sleep
let’s say the first few hours
Each of us are not known to ourselves
Unaware in deepest sleep that
we are who we are

Have we briefly slipped into
all that was before
and all that will be hereafter?
Do we again rest within the kernel
from whence we came, unaware
of the profound potential of all that is?

Could it be that we return to
the unconscious whole, to that
which is unknown even unto itself
All but briefly, to be nurtured,
to be touched,
by the Infinite unknowable now?

Us All

Dedicated to Ray Carver – (silent mentor beloved)

All of us  all of us  all of us

Round about caught and from there

Sideways up to the temple

And downways downwards with care

A nod to the other quick to the sway

A walk in the street or the fell

A cradle a grave to stand and then stare

Each of us one step away

Was the doctor the soldier

Was the nurse was the priest

Was the pilot the driver

Was the teacher bequeathed

Where we are when we go

When we are what we know

As the wind and the weather to the rock and the rune

With the way that it is in the relative soon

With the how and the what

There’s a say, there’s a choice

A movement, a difference

A tenable voice

A something to offer, a something to leave

A possible gift each child can receive

Each of us can if some of us will

Act on our conscience that’s calling us still

All of us    all of us    all of us

All of us     all of us         all

We See Not the World

We see not the world the way it is
But as we are

However, what if we could?

Or at least
What if we could get closer
To seeing the world the way it is?

How could we do this?

How could we, with a kind of clarity
see the ‘Isness’ of the world?
See it the way it is?

Would we need to see the lens we look through?
To see our seeing

Would we need to see what needed to be suspended?
The bias
The judgement
The automatic patterns of naming and believing

And if these were suspended, might we:
Explore again
Curiously
With beginner’s mind

Without the filters of our:
Hurts and fears
Fixed beliefs
Attachments
And fundamentalism’s

Might we discover a way to describe, relate, connect
To the world afresh?

Might we discover a possibility for new choice
And be newly formed?

By seeing our seeing unfiltered
Seeing, as if for the first time
The ‘Isness’ of the world

And if this were possible

What then?

Fixed to the Mirror

“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift.” (Albert Einstein)

Fixed to the mirror
I will not see the wave
Nor the dance of energy
that connects us all

I will not curve
into quantum worlds
Or joyful swirls of
subatomic movement

I will not taste
Sublime unendingness, blended
Within an integral concert
of perpetual play

I will see only boundary
and definition
The face of independence,
It’s wilful stare

I must watch for and soothe the mind intent on separation,
possession, identity in action
craving a course for doing
for accomplishment and for getting caught up and driven ever onwards
in the relentless narrative:
’I must, I must survive’

Within What is Possible

for GB & GB

Two powerful leadership questions to ask myself.

Through my actions and leadership presence:

What happens when I make it socially and relationally safe for others
to speak their truth and be themselves?

What happens when I encourage action beyond where others
thought they could go?

Might it be that, in contribution, I:

Inspire trust and confidence

Liberate potential

Facilitate an inherent response to

what the system is calling for

ultimately, creating a setting for what wants to be born

Three Paths

Inspired by Gil Fronsdal

You have a problem

Do you:
Solve
Resolve or
Dissolve

The problem

Do you Solve through curiousity and critical thinking
Do you Resolve through conversation and humility
Do you Dissolve through forgiveness and acceptance

Three paths
To choose from

Ask: which path requires no force, surrenders control, sets motion in flow and takes you furthest?

This way
Can become
Your preference
And your practice

Pattern Recognition (a process poem)

Look deeply
In stillness
At the patterns
You follow

Look for:
Repetition
Habitual rhythms
Fixed beliefs

Choose one
You want to work with

Measure its worth
With one yardstick:
The degree to which
This pattern of thinking brings you
Ease, expansion, benefit and flow.

If you find anything that is opposite of these
Then you almost certainly know
This pattern is less helpful
Perhaps limiting

Now that you see this you can ask:
What more do I need to observe?
What do I need to see that I have not yet seen?
What is the Attachment?

Once you’ve spent time with these questions
observing as an observer and inquiring as an inquirer;
gaining insight through prolonged observation and inquiry

You can then ask yourself

Now that I know what I know and see what I had not before seen,
What will I do with this?
What is the opportunity here for me?
What do I need to let go?
What do I need to let come?

The next step takes courage

Agency and authorship

Yes

Being the change you need to be

Fire Place

for Beau, Mark & Jan

take embers
place them in your memory
and think of the times
when you sat side by side
in friendship,
and with those kindred
stared silently and simply
into a campfire or fire-place
while night’s fortress
held you bound and
kept you wanting
to stay close to
that source
of warmth and light,
held your quietness and focus
with the glow and dance of embers
as they provided their
ancient solace, and
in deepening stillness
how in contemplation together
and in solitude
you found yourself returning
to the hearth at the heart of it all
